Hi - A little help please. I have not used osCommerce for a while and am just about to get back into it.

My existing site works via the catalog, but I get the well known:

Warning: mysql_pconnect(): Access denied for user: '[email protected]' (Using password: YES) in ....admin/includes/functions/database.php on line 17

Unable to connect to database server!

I have checked admin/includes/configure.php. The database name/user/password are correct, file permissions appear ok. The database is fine and the same db details work fine for the catalog.

Any suggestions what else I should check? Would it be a good idea to try to re-run the web config? (how do I do that - is it a file in the 'Install' dir?) - sorry for all the dumb q's but its been over 6 months !

Any help appreciated.

Have you checked with your hosting company to make sure you have the correct UN and PW for the database? See this.

Thanks for the suggestion Baddog - I am the hosting company!

To make absolutely sure the details are correct I have changed the password (to what it was anyway) via MySQL and accessed directly using the password - it all works fine. As I said, I am also able to update via the 'catalog' without any problem - its just the Admin that fails - strange huh.

I just did'nt want to do a full re-install if someone can spot what it might be, because it has me stumped.

Any other ideas?

If the catalog is working try copying and pasting the database info from your catalog configure.php file to the one for your admin. There may just be a small difference you are not seeing.

The Knowledge Base is a wonderful thing.

Do you have a problem? Have you checked out Common Problems?

There are many very useful osC Contributions

Are you having trouble with a installed contribution? Have you checked out the support thread found Here

BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP!!! You did backup, right??

Why did'nt I think of that ?!

When checking it previously I made the (incorrect) assumption that setting DB_SERVER to 'localhost' was the same as setting it to 'www.mydomainname.com'

It seems I was wrong - your comment made me try changing it to match and bingo!

Strange though - could have sworn it was working last time I was in there!

Thanks for the suggestion - sometimes we just need the kick to see what we know is wrong !
