The only way to get listed i have found is through paid advertising. Has anyone been able to get high natural listings with their oscommerce store? Check out the latest Ultimate SEO URLs since it probably the easiest SEO contribution available. How to get better search engine placement? Well, that depends on more than just your URLs and meta tags. You'll need to conduct a well designed linking campaign and then wait. There is no SEO that happends overnight. Install the Header Tags controller and the SEO site map, optimize your pages for the chosen keywords, make sure bots are able to visit your site and are not being assigned SID's and wait. There are other things that should be done but the above will give you a big jump on it.
