Hi everyone

I have successfully installed oscommerce onto my local machine (im using fedora core 2) and our website is hosted by a company.

I need to somehow take a copy of the website and need to transfer all the files onto my machine as we wish to make developments on the version on a local machine so that the website on the server (hosted by a company) is not affected.

Is there anyway to take a copy of the website and put it onto my machine???

yes you can install easyphp which gives you all that you require and then use an ftp program such as ws_ftp to download your site from the server include a copy of the database.

Setup your database using the phpmyadmin that comes with easyphp and configure your two configure.php files for your local server.

If deposit does not fit one of the slots provided then you are asking too much! :P

Is your Osc dated try Phoenix  raising oscommerce from the ashes.

If it is the same as doing a forum, and I can't see why not, it is simply a matter of downloading the files (except the main config file) onto your comp and also grabbing a database backup as well. Install the database and files in place of the one you have (locally) and away you go.

I have tried this:

[root@localhost root]# ftp ftp.theserver.com

ftp: ftp.theserver.com: Temporary failure in name resolution

ftp>

What does this mean?

Does any one know what the commands are in ftp for copying all the wesite files over to my machine, so that we have a test website and a live website???

database is /var/lib/msql/oscomm

and oscommerce catalog stuff is /var/www/html/catalog

Not sure on the paths on the server but will find out
