reference number for size options

is it possible to have unique reference numbers for each size option.

 

I am refering to the field called "Products Model"

 

so if my product is ss120

 

and whilst using OSC attributes for sizes I can get SS122 (size 12), SS123 (size 14) etc

I believe their are a few contributions for doing this, and yes what your proposing should work fine. You could just create attribute sets using a contribution also.
