Product listing sort problem

Im trying to get my products displayed in a particular order when someone clicks on a category (sorted by date_added?).

 

At the moment from what I can see, the display is displayed in alphabetical order, I have installed a few contribution thinking it might help, so far its been fruitless (got contribution for sorting out product attribute, which is of no use to me), so after a quick brain storm I rearlise Im suppose to change the SQL statement which I have not been able to find, can anyone please tell me where can I find this this and if at all possible the SQL statement require to achieve this?
