JoelMerrick Posted January 18, 2005 Posted January 18, 2005 Hey guys, why's it been deleted? I'm only helping the community!?
JoelMerrick Posted January 18, 2005 Author Posted January 18, 2005 Not answered the question.. my post WAS NOT spam, it had VERY good relevance, about an issue I feel isn't taken as seriously as it should (securityof osCommerce) I'm not selling anything, I'm not trying to enlarge (edit) "anything" and I'm certainly not from Nigeria!
burt Posted January 18, 2005 Posted January 18, 2005 Forks are not considered welcome to the community. Posting any outside URL that has anything to do with sales or servicing of osCommerce is considered Spam. hth
JoelMerrick Posted January 18, 2005 Author Posted January 18, 2005 It's not a fork, it's a security patched version of MS2.2, not infrastructure changes. There will be a loaded version with security enhancements too, like CCV and blacklists. Plus articles on web site security, which surely must be to the benefit of the community as a whole? I don't see why this should be deleted? it's 100% relevant to the osC community
burt Posted January 18, 2005 Posted January 18, 2005 You might want to remove the URL from your signature before you get told off again. ;)
AXM Posted January 18, 2005 Posted January 18, 2005 Yeah I created another post earlier today about the same subject. Earlier Post And I didn't even post any URL. It was just inferred that I was doing something to break the forum rules. I was even threatened to stop it or i'll get suspended. Yet I still haven't done anything wrong. Kinda leaves a sour taste in your mouth when you try to help others and get punished for it. I ♥ PHP/MYSQL/CSS
JoelMerrick Posted January 18, 2005 Author Posted January 18, 2005 And then why should your blog be allowed... I bet you've posted something about osC on there ;)
JoelMerrick Posted January 18, 2005 Author Posted January 18, 2005 Yeah I created another post earlier today about the same subject. Earlier Post Kinda leaves a sour taste in your mouth when you try to help others and get punished for it. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Agree 100%
burt Posted January 18, 2005 Posted January 18, 2005 You are comparing Apples to Oranges. My blog is on an osCommerce URL, thus I am allowed to post the URL in my posts and signature etc. My Blog contains lots of stuff; broken toes, domain names, people stealing, even a few jokes, and some more serious stuff like code changes, accessibility and what not.
JoelMerrick Posted January 18, 2005 Author Posted January 18, 2005 .. hence why I put a ;) - ;) Look, I realise that there's rules, I realise that 'spammers' are a problem, advertising their wares and what not, but I don't understand the interpretation of the rules. You can ask people what they reckon about their commercial site (and maybe - god forbid - advertise it too) , yet if you are trying to provide valuable info and resources for people to use, you are chastised for it
burt Posted January 18, 2005 Posted January 18, 2005 I should qualify that a little more by saying, "osCommerce url" means oscommerce.com, oscommerce.info or a subdomain thereof.
burt Posted January 18, 2005 Posted January 18, 2005 Indeed. I don't like some of the rules about the place, but I do my best to stay within the boundaries of what's OK and what's not allowed. If only you knew how much fuss I make about these rules ;)
cannuck1964 Posted January 18, 2005 Posted January 18, 2005 If only you knew how much fuss I make about these rules burt make a fuss?? I would never had thought that of you.... :P There are discrepancies in the posting rules, for example, it is ok to mention other projects ie mambo, phpnuke etc. it is not permissable to mention any other osC projects (forks or not), that are available outside of this domain (osC). As for services, they are not allowed here at all. No site which offers services is allowed to be mentioned, linked to, or listed in the stores thread. I have my ideas why this is so, but since this is owned by someone, and is not a public service, the rules and actions here are dicated by whatever he wishes. Don't like it? Well that is just too bad. There are people here who have been slapped several times, and smile and deal with it in whatever way they want.... Regards, Peter M. Rob123 Posted January 18, 2005 Posted January 18, 2005 IMO... but I could be wrong "Loaded Version" == "Fork" If you don't want it labeled it as such, you can: 1. report the bugs to the osCommerce team 2. provide tips or instructions on the forum 3. provide downloads from the oscommerce.com contributions site. A primary concern is when you provide a full download that replaces the need to download the official download. Just my 2 cents from some guy with a keyboard. Robert
JoelMerrick Posted January 18, 2005 Author Posted January 18, 2005 HOW AM I SELLING A SERVICE, THERE IS NOTHING FOR SALE ON MY SITE. ... Only information, which is free for all.. So let me get this straight, I'm allowed to talk about security of Mambo, phpNuke etc.. but not Security of osCommerce !!!! [EDIT] Watch your language - insulting people isn't going to get you anywhere [/EDIT]
burt Posted January 18, 2005 Posted January 18, 2005 So let me get this straight, I'm allowed to talk about security of Mambo, phpNuke etc.. but not Security of osCommerce !!!! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You'd talk about the security of Mambo etc at their own respective Forums, surely?. You are most welcome to talk about the Security of osC in these Forums. What you are not welcomed to do is place links to outside URLs. By the way, I find the latter part of this particular post that I am replying to distasteful and un-needed. And for Cannuck: :-"

JoelMerrick Posted January 18, 2005 Author Posted January 18, 2005 I did, they didn't help. Really pissed off guys.. I've been using osC for 3 years.. NO MORE NOW :(
Mark Evans Posted January 18, 2005 Posted January 18, 2005 I did, they didn't help. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You have a PM explaining the issues with the trademark violation of the osCommerce logo and the issues regarding your downloadable version of osCommerce. I've visited your site earlier today after I found your posting which is now removed. I think something like a security patched MS2 version is a very good think. I should be hosted directly on the oscommerce site. Why? I start looking today for a shop and found that MS2 is rather old but I didn't find any security updates. Maybe there aren't any security related issues but even this should be documented.

JoelMerrick Posted January 18, 2005 Author Posted January 18, 2005 I just hope you take on board some of this. Even if I've cheesed you off. ;) Anyway, peace and love et al.
