pauldarthvader Posted January 14, 2005 Posted January 14, 2005 Hi All My site has only been live for a couple of months, and is still a work in progress regarding SEO. I know rankings change all the time, but i was a little miffed that on its first crawl, googlebot only listed my index/home page. After a little research, i made a few changes and have a few links pointing to my site. I'm considering adding the all products contribution, but as this will be my first attempt at adding 1, i'm putting it off until i have a couple of days spare in case things go wrong. Googlebot visited again 2 days ago, my server says it registered 6 hits. but now i have no listing on google, not even my home page. As far as i know i have followed their guidelines and not broken any rules. Does this mean i am banned from google? The changes i made were: 1. Forcing cookies 2. Blocking csid for spiders 3. Shuffled my catagories a little 4. Changed the meta keywords a little and the page title. If anyone can offer any words of wisdom, i would be very grateful. My Webpage Paul Regards Paul
Jack_mcs Posted January 14, 2005 Posted January 14, 2005 It is not uncommon to be removed from googles index when you are a new shop due to google rotating their databases. I would not worry about it at this point. If your site does not show up in a few weeks, then try contacting google and ask why your site as been removed. In the meantime, work on optimizing your site for the SE's. I'm assuming your main keyword is Remote Control Cars. This should be how your title starts off (does anyone actually search gor UK Gadget Shop ?). The number of keywords you have listed is diluting your keyword density for the page. Also, you need to get your pr up by adding links to your site. One of the quickest ways to get listed is to have a pr since that increases the chances of google finding you. Of course, once they find you, the site needs to be relevant to the search, which brings you back to optimizing the page. pauldarthvader Posted January 14, 2005 Author Posted January 14, 2005 Hi Jack Thanks for the advice. Google says i have no links pointing to my site, yet msn says i have 60 odd. I guess i have little choice but to wait and see what happens next time the spider visits. I have run the site through poodle, which has highlighted a couple of issues i had not spotted. 1 of which was the lack of h1 h2 and h3 headers. The results also seemed to index osc much more than it did my site lol. Paul Regards Paul
KennethS Posted January 14, 2005 Posted January 14, 2005 Hi, Google only indexed the first page of my site for almost a month yet it was perusing my site every day. Later on It finally showed all of those links in Google's search. It took 6 months to get a PR (which is 4) even though from the day google hit it I was linked from PR 5 and 6 sites. Google is slow, and it takes forever to get a PR so just be very patient. Kenneth S -------------- Customer "Are you a real programmer?" Me "No, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night"
