Editing header_tags.php

I am a search engine optimization specialist new to optimizing OScommerce. I found a document called header_tags.php in the includes/languages/english folder that appear to be editable per page rather than site wide. To edit those tags by the page, do I simply change the page name where "pagename.php" is and edit those turning the default toggle to off by replacing the 1 with 0? I don't want to break things site wide, just want to individually edit page title tags to reflect the exact content of each page by product in the cart. Is that doable? Thanks for any help you can give. The host insists I use the admin panel, but I can't make that work due to some settings here. Default? I'm a PHP idiot and am used to editing a single document to effect Title changes for every individual page, but can't seem to find documentation or instruction on this one. Help?!

Try "Dynamic Meta Tags'" or any of the Header Tag Controller contributions, They will save you a lot of amnual coding.

Installed Contributions: CCGV, Close Popup, Dynamic Meta Tags, Easy Populate, Froogle Data Feeder, Google Position, Infobox Header Entire Row, Live Support for OSC, PayPal Seal with CC images, Report_m Sales, Shop by Price Revised, SQL Updater, Who's Online Enhancement, Footer, GNA EP Assistant and still going.

Thank you bobg7! Downloaded that script and started following directions until I noticed three things, 1) The version of OScommerce referenced in the downloaded script is "1.92 2003/02/14 05:51:21" while my client's host is using "v 1.1.1.1 2004/03/04 23:38:02" and 2) the readme text also references the location of the file as "catalog/product_info.php" while my client's host has no "catalog" directory and this product_info.php page is in the public_html folder and 3) I see no <head> tag in that product info referenced in that script. I must emphasize that I'm clueless with PHP and only know basic HTML, so don't know where to go from there. Don't want to break anything and suspect the above will lead to breakage. :( Any additional suggestions?

OOPS, found more scripts under "Header Tag Controller" scripts that seem to more directly address issues and am reviewing documentation on those. Thank you for the help, though and I'm sure I'll be back.

If you have a header_tags.php file in your english folder you probably already have the contribution installed. That files does not exist in a default install of osC.

The Knowledge Base is a wonderful thing.

Do you have a problem? Have you checked out Common Problems?

There are many very useful osC Contributions

Are you having trouble with a installed contribution? Have you checked out the support thread found Here

BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP!!! You did backup, right??

Right you are, I just discovered that based on a screenshot from the download. I sure wish the host had pointed that out a couple of weeks ago, when I first asked. My problem with it was that it was appending to an existing default title tag, which was already 64 to 80 characters long - too much for the search engines to read it all. I've since discovered by playing with the header_tags.php file that there is a toggle for replacing or appending. I've set that toggle to "0" and now it replaces individual products title tags and meta data. Now I've got the same problem with the individual category tags. Any ideas there?
