Help configuring OsCommerce for clothing store

I have worked with OsCommerce on some other projects, but am now faced with the out-of-the-box limitations concerned with selling clothing. I have read through a few weeks of back postings, but have not seen a satisfactory answer to my problems.

OsCommerce seems to work well with products that do not have complex attributes, but not with clothing. The products, have sizes, colors, inventory, and color. For example:

Shirt Style 1 in Color red, Size large, SKU 1005-3 (indicates shirt style 1/red/large), Inventory of 5 (in stock)

For this store, I am willing to set up different colors as separate items, and will give up inventory control. So, what I need is the ability to have size and SKU (model number) as a pair of attributes.

I looked at QT Pro, which seems to solve this problem, except it does it for inventory, rather than SKU, as I need it.

Is there a single contribution solution to this problem? If not, and easy combination?

If possible, I would also like something that will allow attributes (particularly size) to be sorted in a logical order. I have read about master products, and attributes options sort, but don't know if they will conflict with a solution to my greater problem.

Any help would be appreciated. I apologize if this has already been addressed.
