Premature Order - PayPal IPN v1.0 For 2.2MS2

Hi there,

Our orders are showing up in the "Orders" table before it is checked out and processed via PayPal.com. I'm using the "osCommerce PayPal IPN Module v1.0 For 2.2MS2."

This is confusing because it appears an Order has gone through even if a shopper cancels the PayPal transaction, or removes the item AFTER selecting their Payment Method.

Example:

1. Shopper logs in to account, shops, adds item to Shopping Cart.

2. Normal Checkout occurs --> Shipping Method

3. Normal Checkout occurs --> Payment Method (PayPal IPN)

4. THEN PROBLEM OCCURS: Item shows up in Admin Backend in "Orders" table before user has processed successfully through PayPal.com.

Hypotheically, this is fine ONLY IF shopper checks out and doesn't remove items or doesn't cancel the PayPal.com transaction -- because it will work just fine. However, we're having Orders show up in the Admin Backend that just linger until I eventually manually delete them.

Any help?

TIA

It is my understanding that is the way this contrib is designed to work. The order is databased BEFORE being sent to PayPal, which is different from the included PayPal module which apparently only databased the order after the customer returned from PayPal.

My undertsanding (easily wrong) is that if a customer failed to return to your store from PayPal, you had no record of the order. The new method is supposed to provide a protection for this lost order problem.

It has been acknowledged, and I have had to deal with this myself, that if the customer bails out after going to PayPal, you will have to manually delete the "Preparing" statused order if it becomes a few days old.
