Checkout Confirmation Hangs for 1 Minute or Longer

I am noticing that when placing an order and hitting the Confirm button, the cart hangs for 1-3 Minutes. Before showing the Order Confirmed Page.

 

The order shows up almost instantly in the admin page, but the user of the website sees the web page processing the order for a very long time.

 

Is there anything that would affect this or a way to speed this up? I do not remember having a long delay time when first installing OSCommerce.

 

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'd try a db repair (but always backup first).

this may also be an email problem/delay.
