hfreedman Posted January 9, 2005 Posted January 9, 2005 Hi People, I'm getting a little frustrated here. I'm a complete newbie, but have reached the point of having apache and mysql loaded and running. I have installed oscommerce and as according the documentation, have placed the catalogue and admin folders within webroot path on my server. I can now browse the catalogue folder which lauches the oscommerce installation allowing me to install a new online store. Two screen later, it's asking me for the database server, username, password, and database name. I think I put localhost in for the database server, and oscommerce for the database name. I don't know what to put in for username and password. I contiually get the error message "Access denied for user ''@'%' to database 'oscommerce' ". Past forum help has referred me to all kinds of documentation, as well, I've looked at all kinds of config files. Now into my second day stuck at this point, I could use some detailed information. Please do not bother replying if you plan on refering me to somemore documentation. ( Can you see my frustration?) Thanks! -Howard

hfreedman Posted January 9, 2005 Author Posted January 9, 2005 What control panel? How do I run this control panel? Remember, I'm still a newbie with this web stuff. Please be patient and detailed. Thanks! -Howard

Thanks!-Howard <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Most (all?) hosting services allow you to access your files using a Control Panel. Once you access that, you can usually (always?) access your databases. When you said you had Apache and MySQL loaded and running, I assumed you were running your own server.
hfreedman Posted January 9, 2005 Author Posted January 9, 2005 I am running my own server for now (through development). I have found the command utility mysqladmin.exe, but have not seen, or know how to run a control panel for mysql. Can you help? -Howard

hfreedman Posted January 10, 2005 Author Posted January 10, 2005 Figured it out. Did it through the Xampp control panel. Thanks!
