Contribution Installer

Has there been a contribution designed to install other contributions?

Example....

Install the base OSC

Install the Contribution Installer - which enables a FXP effect from the OSC contribution page (which is the main base)

Extra features could be -

contribution updater

contribution submitter - submits back to the OSC contributions

contribution editor (maybe like a file manager)

Most GUI programs have this feature, which is standard in current software pacakges... microsoft, apple, games, virus detectors, software packs.... etc.

OSC is great, dont get me wrong, but what I have experienced is a whole lot of great ideas, working contributions, and the ability to expand the OSC immensely.

BUT

A lot of contributions are not cross-platform..... they dont work with other contributions, unless you sit down and re-write the contribution.

This gives the impression that a lot of contributions on the OSC site is by far out of date.

Going through the contributions it is getting confusing.... and some are not even for the current OSC package. Maybe it is time the OSC development guru's decided to update their base package, to offer greater enhancements, and the ability for programmers to impliment new challenges?

I have noticed that when the head guru's see a threat to the outdated OSC base package, they call it a fork, and delete it.... a good example is the Multi-store package 1.6 created by Hobbzilla and other people who helped.

That would be a great update to date base package for OSC, and he had already updated a lot of the outdated contributions to have them function. Only to be squashed and deleted..... why?

Hobbzilla, should be highly praised and all the people that gave their input in making the multi-store grow to a great contribution that would have seen greater enhancements in future contributions.

I think it is sad that he was punished in the manner he was by the OSC team!!!!!!

Maybe it would have been better to take it into account... and stop supporting the old win95 versions of OSC, MS1?..... and start supporting a new build of the OSC MS3.

DiabloIII will be awesome.... can't wait for it myself.... but the point is, Diablo I is still able to be used, played online, and patches still get created for it. But why use it when DiabloII offers greater game play, security, and options for the actual player. DiabloIII will offer even more security, game play options, and people will enjoy the time they spend on it.

Will the future of OSC offer greater game play, security, and the ability to enhance the enjoyment of using it?

Once paid for its free to upgrade for life.....

So nobody has ever engaged in creating a GPL updater?

The OSC team deletes anything that is a threat or a fork... is that GPL?

take up your first one with them. it has nothing to do with this forum as far as i am concerned.

not many of the gpl applications out there use an updater for contributions. contrbutions are too tough to do, as you have many people of all different skill levels programming, from someone picking up a book and trying to write something to someone with over well tons of experience. if they all programmed the same way, great. but doesnt work that way too well.

The closest your are going to come is completely separating the code from presentation...basically a template system. But, it has to completely remove the code from the templates. Then it'll be easier but not completely automated.
