Attribute Price Prefix - Why?

OK many will think this is a dumb question but I was working on some changes to a store and it made me wonder something - Why Price Prefix for Attributes?

So my curiosity got the best of me so I removed them all and tested and it seemed ok, but I would guess I am missing something... otherwise why would it have ever been added?

So I tried using +5.00 and -5.00 and 5.00 then I tried using qty of 2 to see if the two negatives made a positive and they didn't....

So can anyone tell me why the Option was added? And if there is any reason it cant be added in front of the value if it is a negative (ie -5.00)

Thanks

you have a base product, sometimes they already include some options, sometimes not.

if you add additional options and they cost money, then you would use a plus and $ amount to add on.

if on the other hand the product came one way and the stripped down version cost x amount less, then the $ with the -amount.

if yours doesnt work that way then something programmed wrong.

Thanks for the reply John... but it worked before and then when I started palying with it and removed it and just used a value like 5.00 or -5.00 it still works without the Prefix Value.

I was wondering why the seperated column of prefix was added to OSC...

So just to clarify.....

I have a dev site I want through all of the code and removed code for attribute prefix and everything seems to still work as fasr as I can see...

So my question is why was it ever added? there must have been a reason?

If you are wondering why this would even come up... I was trying to streamline that attribute system for a client as they are always messsing it up so I got looking at the prefix and wondering if it was really needed....
