hfreedman Posted January 8, 2005 Posted January 8, 2005 Hi! I'm a complete newbie trying to develop and internet store. The only experience I have is developing a web site using FrontPage many years ago for a client. Anyway, I have signed up with Powweb for a year to host my store. In the meantime, I think I should be able to develop the store locally using OSCommerce (correct me if I'm wrong). I have loaded ammp to give me apache and MySql (which I have running). Where do I go from here? I have downloaded OSCommerce and extracted all the files to paths stored in the zip file. I can't find any documentation as to where I proceed from here. I've read about this OSDOX which I think is complete OSCommerce documentation, but I can't find it anywhere. I hope I've made the right choices so far to be able to create an internet store in due time. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! -Howard
Simmy Posted January 8, 2005 Posted January 8, 2005 I think you have made the right choice. You'll be dishing out advice on this forum in no time so don't worry. I've recently learned that xampp is a good start. What is it you are stuck with. Is the default store working? B

Anyway, I'm right at the very begining. I have unzipped OSCommerce onto my hard drive. I don't know where to go from there. Do I need to install OSCommerce? Do I need to run something? Do I need to load something? I'm really in the dark at this point. Help would be appreciated. Thanks! -Howard
Simmy Posted January 8, 2005 Posted January 8, 2005 I'm a bit rusty on the installation procedure and I'm not running apache so I can only give pointers. You need to (if i remember correctly) unzip oscommerce to your web directory which may be called public_html or wwwroot or web (whatever xampp has as the default web directory) You can then run the installation procedure by opening a web browser and going to http://localhost/oscommerce then follow the instructions in the following knowledge base file: http://www.oscommerce.info/kb/osCommerce/I...g_osCommerce/16
hfreedman Posted January 8, 2005 Author Posted January 8, 2005 I'll give this a try. You're great! Thanks! -Howard
