need error help please!!

When I go to my website and click on my account I get an error which reads:

Parse error: parse error, unexpected $ in /home/gentlyus/public_html/account.php on line 228

Can anyone tell me how to fix this?

Please bear with me as I am new to all of this.

So are you saying I need to copy and paste the account file

under the file manager and put it here for you to see? :'(

Mistake #1 Do not use the file manager- it will mess up your files. Get an ftp client such as filezilla or WS_FTP pro.

OK, this is interesting, pasted your listing into my php editor and it ends on line 228. Abruptly!

I tried to add the code and when I went to the file manager to account then edit

it won't let me do anything. It says error: I can not write to this file. Please set the right user permissions on: /home/gentlyus/public_html//account.php

I don't know how to fix that problem either.

Quickest way to fix it is to upload an untouched version of that file. If you don't have one then download osCommerce MS2.2 zip file from www.oscommerce.com, unzip it on your computer and then upload it.

When editing osCommerce files always download the file to be edited via FTP, back it up under another name, then edit the file you downloaded in a plain text editor like Notepad, Text Pad, or Crimson Editor. Do not use Word or Wordpad as they apply text formatting.

Once you've edited the file upload it, and if it doesn't work then rename the file you backed up, upload that, and you're back to where you started - no harm done.

In my ftp I do not see this file in there.

I didn't set all of this up so I'm not sure if I have all the files in my ftp.

I will give this a try tomorrow.

Just curious as to what happens to the files from using the file manager.

Are you supposed to be able to make changes through the file manager?
