Customising admin area

Hi

 

I have just shown the adminsitration area of a store to a client and he nearly passed out - he asked if I could make it simpler by removing certain areas such as 'Configuration' for example - he said he didn't trust himself.

 

I would also like to know if its possible to bypass the first admin page located at 'catalog/admin/index.php' and go straight into the module design for example 'catalog/admin/orders.php' This may help him as it takes him to what he will use most.
