I am using tar version 1.13. I do not know if this is a error or not but the file I am trying to untar is named oscommerce-2.2ms2.tar.tar Any help will be greatly appreciated

dlchapman Posted February 5, 2005 Posted February 5, 2005 The reason that people cannot open the tar file is that the downloaded file has the ending tar.tar, this is the problem, all you have to do is change the ending to tar.gz and then the file will open in winzip by just clicking on it normally (do not need to resort to manual opening). As some of the files are compressed the gz ending is necessary maybe even for you linux unpackers... :-" The download websites should change the ending to work! I noted that some contributors say it doesn't matter if you open the zip or the tar.gz that the files are just the same, well they have the same file extensions, so that should work, but they may be different in content (I am not sure) the dates of the folders and the files and even some sizes are different. Can someone please confirm.... (This statement refers to both types of downloads performed today with same version status). It's now 7:05am in the UK and I have been hitting this problem since 4am and had to register to give this valuable insight. PS I only heard of osCommerce at 4am so I know of no other solutions to other problems.
