Image proportions all wrong, or not showing

I've FTP'ed my site to a new server, and configured the configure.php in both store and admin includes.

On my old server there were no problems.

If the setting is not "image required true", no product images show, but most category images show. And the thumbnail, showing the category alwasy show.

 

If i set both width and height to i.e. 40, images are shown in original size (the size they show in "click for larger image". If i set one of the sizes to "0", the images is just a thin line, 1 pix wide, and original size long.

 

My current setings are:

 

Small Image Width

Small Image Height 70

Heading Image Width

Heading Image Height 40

Subcategory Image Width

Subcategory Image Height 57

Calculate Image Size true

Image Required true

I forgot to mention that in admin module, everything looks fine. All pics are there, and prefiew of products looks fine.
