Hi guys,

I am new to the site and this is my first post, so be nice!

I have the osCommerce cart as part of my hosting package. I want to use it but don't really know where to start.

I have designed a few websites before (with CSS etc) but I haven't set-up anything like this.

What I want to do is use it to manage payments for a music download site I am looking to set-up with a mate.

We know loads of people in the music industry and are looking for them to donate tracks to the site so we can sell them on to people and try to raise money for the Tsumani disaster appeal.

Any guideance, references, tips, do's and don'ts, would be massively appreciated - i.e Worldpay v's Paypal?

For your information, I have access to unlimited webspace, bandwidth, MySQL databases, e-mail accounts, ftp etc ...

Happy New year to you all,

Ok ... got the catalogue and admin tool all set-up now ... loads of help online so I will read - feel a bit silly not having done that before first post, however we are in a rush so thought I'd give people the heads up first - I also assumed the set-up would be more involved!

scanning through, nothing has jumped out describing how to charge for a download.

Is this something that is at all possible? or am I wasting my time with this product?

Any comments appreciated guys,

selling music for the tsunami effort, hmmmmmmm. have you done your homework on something like this?

there are many many places out there who 'scam' others and there are tons of articles in the news of what it takes for those companies (here in the us anyway).

for the legas aspect you should check with your attorney, etc.

and then list on your site what percentage goes to the tsunami effort. if you are wanting the musicians to 'donate' are they expecting any money" are you expecting any money for doing this? is the web space donated?

so back to the original, you need to setup a product, then assign products attributes to the product, and assign the file name to the product.

personally, someone just starting off doing this (especially a few weeks after) i question. just my honest opinion.

I understand they have enough money, suggest you fly out there and give them a hand. Before your site is ready, this is long gone.

yeah you guys have some good points to make.

this is really my good friends idea and when he came to me to ask for help, of course I said yes.

we haven't had a chance before now to get together but I see what you are saying about it not looking too legit a couple of weeks in.

I hadn't considered that people would think we were out to con them ... and doing more practical work would be far more useful than simply chucking money in a tin - to be honest, I was having the same discussion last night with another lass.

I will chat to my bud, and see what he says.

You guys have kind of taken the wind out of the sails a bit !! ... but perhaps I need to make sure he has thought things through - I didn't want to be so negative to him straight away.

cheers for the tips on the cart though ... on another note, anyone got any recommendations for how I could stream some music/video?
