Category description

I'd like to add text to the category page. I have just set up Oscommerce on a new site but I'd like to add a description on the top of the page where there is a sample 'Lets See What We Have Here'. I would need to change the text for each category but I don't see any option for this in the admin panel or in the database file 'categories_description.

 

Any help would be appreciated.

I tried both sets of instructions on that link, but it doesn't seem to make dynamic changes to each category page (it just offers a single graphic or text which remains for all category choices.)

 

Where (in the stock OScommerce setup) it displays 'Lets See What We Have Here' part of the page:

 

I would like a different graphic to appear for each category chosen (Not intefering with the product pictures and text).

 

I would also like to have descriptive text for each category displayed.

Well, I used an earlier version of that contribution which allows one to create in admin custom HTML for each category. It works well for me. You can see it in action at www.cheshiregarden.com I'll admit that I have not looked closely at what the contribution looks like now.

 

What sometimes happens with contributions is that people post updates for just a small part of the feature, and don't make that clear. You may have to go back a few versions to find everything you need. I see that at some point it got sidetracked into working with BTS (which I don't use).

You can remove that text (Lets See What We Have Here) entirely. I think is is defined in the includes/languages/english/english.php file. Just delete the text and insert a space.

 

In the Admin panel, you can add a graphic for each category. Simply select a category by clicking on the words, not the folder, the select "Edit" on the right side.

 

Add your graphis (keeping in mind the sizes that you spelled out in Configuration), and Bingo! You have category graphics. No Contribution and all the modifications required.

 

This may not have the flexibility of some of the contributions, but, it works and is quick and simple to use.
