Guest Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 Hello Everyone, Big day today. After 4 months, got the new shopping cart online. Of course I've got to play with the bells and whistles. Sitting watching the "Who's online" page and notice a Guest that has been online for 3 1/2 hours, has a shopping cart list longer than my arm with totals climbing, absurdly, and is at the "Write Product Review" page. I watch for about ten minutes, cart total still climbing, and think maybe he/she is somehow doing this through the "Write Pro..." page rather than the shopping pages and fire up my server control panel and block his IP. As I'm watching, his/her IP address (Which traces back to Microsoft in WA) changes to a server in New Jersey. AHHHH! So I block that IP and jump onto the database and delete his session information. Now...am I paranoid or am I being hacked? I pulled the "Write a Review" box from the right column include for now. Any comments on the site would be appreciated also :) http://www.carvingwood.us

Change your configuration to prevent spider sessions.

Guest Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 Would this effect page rankings? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If you are asking whether or not letting spiders start a session will affect page ranking, the answer is no. If you are asking whether or not being spidered will affect page ranking, the answer is yes. Dave

1Putts Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 Okay...Now the big question, how do I prevent spider sessions? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Under the admin menu -> configuration -> sessions ...you can set "Prevent Spider Sessions" to TRUE. Caveat - my store is yet to go online so I don't know if it actually works or not.
