Guest Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 Im trying configure the categories so that its easy to find a particular item or group of similair items. EG: My client sells home building plans. These plans are based on: - Amount of SQ FT - Number of bathrooms - Number of bedrooms He wants his cusotmers to be able to select from a series of 'drop down' menus, then 'submit' the selections. Then all the relevant home plans are listed. He wants the selections to be made on (1) page, otherwise I could set up the categories to 'drill down' to the right plans. Here is a link to an existing site for a referance: http://www.eplans.com/ Im open to any other method thah easily allows the customer to display a list of plans based on the above criteria.
peterr Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 Hi, If a building plan is a 'product', then look into using product attributes. Peter
Guest Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 Hi, If a building plan is a 'product', then look into using product attributes. Peter <{POST_SNAPBACK}> He sells hundreds of building plans. I need a way for clients to easily choose there plan criteria, then have all relevant plans listed. Please refer me to an existing site for what you are talking about.
peterr Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 Hi, He sells hundreds of building plans. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That's okay, you can have hundreds of product attributes, but that will get hard to maintain. I don't know much about the Custom Computer Creator contribution, but in theory, the way (I think) that functions, is for people who visit the website, pick all the options, and 'build' a computer. The varaiations are many of course, and a price on each component no doubt. In the same manner, in theory at least, could not a website visitor 'build' (or put together, state how many bedrooms, bathrooms, etc) the actual house plan they require ? It would be worth a little time to dwonload the contribution, and see if it can be easily modified , to suit your purposes. Peter
♥Vger Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 That site link you provided - you are talking about a major piece of work there. It would take one person around six months or more (working all hours) to build a site of that depth and scope. Also, every piece of that code is custom built for that site. You're not going to be able to deliver anything like that with osCommerce, unless you just use the backend of osCommerce and build a whole new front-end from scratch. Vger
