Increasing Product Titles

in the databse in product_descriptions the length set for products_name is set at 64 characters. For alot of my products I need longer titles so is there anyway of changing the character length. I tried just changing the 64 to 128 but it didn't seem to do anything.

I read several times on the forum that I simply needed to go to the products_description table in the database and edit the value for the products_name there and it would let me lengthen the titles for my products.

 

I did that and when I edit a product and hit preview it shows me the full title, but when I look at it on the site in the online catalog it cuts it off.

 

I then go back to edit the product and sure enough the title is cutoff.

 

What am I missing? Your help is greatly appreciated.
