Guest Posted January 4, 2005 Posted January 4, 2005 Totally new to all this.... Getting an error when I try to install... >>The configuration files do not exist, or permission levels are not set. Please perform the following actions: * cd /home/adorable/public_html/catalog/includes/ * touch configure.php * chmod 706 configure.php * cd /home/adorable/public_html/catalog/admin/includes/ * touch configure.php * chmod 706 configure.php If chmod 706 does not work, please try chmod 777.<< Server connection is made, and everything seems cool till this last step. I've tried both 706 and 777, and I always get this error. Any ideas anyone? ~Zach
♥Vger Posted January 4, 2005 Posted January 4, 2005 That error looks like its generated on a windows server. If that's the case then you won't actually be able to change the file permission in osCommerce or via FTP - but only via Telnet or SSH, or via your webhosting control panel's file manager. Vger

Guest Posted January 4, 2005 Posted January 4, 2005 did you go to the actual file locations? you can try to ftp the osCommerce software again, set the permissions on the two files and then try the reinstallation.

Guest Posted January 4, 2005 Posted January 4, 2005 if you cant set the file permissions then you can manually install osCommerce, however I would be for moving to another host, as you need 777 permissions on images, pub, admin/images/graphs. admin/backups.

Guest Posted January 4, 2005 Posted January 4, 2005 i understand totally. if they dont work with 777, then you probably wont be able to set the required ones to 777 after installation.

I can't complete the installation unless something changes. Thanks, ~Zach
Guest Posted January 4, 2005 Posted January 4, 2005 ask your host why you can not set properties on the files, perhaps they have the file ownership set up improperly
Guest Posted January 4, 2005 Posted January 4, 2005 ask your host why you can not set properties on the files, perhaps they have the file ownership set up improperly <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I can set the properties. That is the one thing that's working correctly. There doesn't seem to be any problem there. OsC just doesn't seem to be seeing the changes...
Guest Posted January 4, 2005 Posted January 4, 2005 then a bad load of the software could be the problem.
Guest Posted January 4, 2005 Posted January 4, 2005 then a bad load of the software could be the problem. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> A bad load of OsC, or something else. I had my host wipe my server this morning so I could build my site on a clean slate.
Guest Posted January 4, 2005 Posted January 4, 2005 download a complete copy of osCommerce and ftp that back to your site
Guest Posted January 4, 2005 Posted January 4, 2005 download a complete copy of osCommerce and ftp that back to your site <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'll give it a shot, thanks.
Guest Posted January 4, 2005 Posted January 4, 2005 I'll give it a shot, thanks. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm building the site at home on my Win PC, but my host is Linux, should I DL the win or linux version?
Guest Posted January 4, 2005 Posted January 4, 2005 they are both the same after extraction, *nix is tar'd
Guest Posted January 4, 2005 Posted January 4, 2005 they are both the same after extraction, *nix is tar'd <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I just did a fresh copy of the catalog folder and got the same problem. I used chmod 777 ARRGGG...
Guest Posted January 4, 2005 Posted January 4, 2005 Still not working I had my host look at it and he says that the server end is working fine. Anyone else have a solution? ~Zach
