Need help with missing language button images

I'm running OSCommerce 2.2MS2. I'm having a problem with the images from the language image directory not showing. I've spent hours looking for a previous thread on this and haven't been able to find anything that works. The path looks correct in the configuration file. It seems that it has something to do with permissions, but I've tried setting the permissions on the image folder to 777 and that doesn't work. I saw in the bug reports that perhaps the problem is that the Allow/Override option in the httpd.conf file needs to be changed, but the site is on a shared webhosting plan and that file can't be changed. I've also tried deleting the .htaccess file in the includes folder as suggested by another thread, but that doesn't seem to be working either.

 

If anyone has any experience or suggestions with this I would greatly appreciate it.
