budbiss Posted January 1, 2005 Posted January 1, 2005 First of all, I should mention that this is the first contribution that I personally am attempting to install (my site has had others installed, but by a friend of mine and not by me). My site has alot of customizations to it (which where not done by me) and so when I follow the instructions for the 'Purchase Without Registration' contribution, it says to use beyond compare to compare the current files to the ones that are part of the contribution. Well, there are a TON of differences. What am I supposed to do? Am I supposed to go through each file and manually tell it to copy over the differences of the old file to the contribution file? Is there an easier way of doing this? Quote
Guest Posted January 1, 2005 Posted January 1, 2005 If you have already added contributions, then yes. If however you have a vanilla install of osCommerce then replacement of the files is a simpler option (I am not familiar with the contribution in question). If you have already installed contributions, it may be simpler to first compare any files you must modify for the new contribution with standard osCommerce files - if they are the same (standard) then you can overwrite. Those that are non-standard must be updated using the compare method. Make sure that the contribution is designed for your version of osCommerce, and be aware that you may break your installation - its always good to backup first :D Matti Quote
budbiss Posted January 1, 2005 Author Posted January 1, 2005 (edited) I appreciate your prompt reply. However, since I have never used a file compare application until now, I am still unclear on the proper method of using it. I set it up to compare all the files and successfully got it to show me the differences, but I am unsure what to do after this point. Should I simply tell it to copy over all the differences that the customized (origional) files have? By the way, the application I used is called Beyond Compare; is this a good one to use or is there a better one? Josh Edited January 1, 2005 by budbiss Quote
