I have my current standard OSC setup running to my needs, 1300+ products, shipping & payment are all sorted etc..

I've just discovered STS and the possibilities of a fresh and original look

from what i understand, i have to install STS in a fresh install of OSC, if i back up my DB and then setup the new store will i be able to just import the saved DB using phpMYAdmin?

Thanks for any comments or suggestions

If you feel comfortable with using phpMyAdmin then you can use it. It is a very powerful tool, but you don't actually need it. The build-in Database Backup Manager does the job perfectly!

If the structure of the database is the same and hasn't been changed, manually or by add-on contributions, they should work fine.

I thought it'd be something similar to that, what i'm going to do is setup a new osc in a different under a different folder name and try that,

obviously backing everything up first :)

one thing i have noticed is that the DB i export with phpmyadmin is about 300k smaller than the one created through admin?? am i likely to run into problem further down the line,

p.s, phpmyadmin should be browsed and learnt by everyone as it is very powerful

example, i want to delete the coutries from the drop down list that i didn't need, through admin it would of meant selecting country, hit delete, repeat 300 times

5 mins of browsing through phpmyadmin located the countries and i could select the ones i wanted to remove and hit delete.

Both methods will create a perfect copy of your database. The size differece is due to the comment lines and syntax style etc.. For example, on top of my head, I can recall at least 3 different ways of using SQL INSERT staments to do the very same job.

Yes, STS will greatly simplify your customisations. By the way, MS3 will have it's very own built-in template system. Check out the workbord using the link below.
