Bad thumbnails

In the past (prior to working with osCommerce), I have used two separate images, a thumbnail and an enlargement, allowing tweaking of both.

 

I do not see an option for separate images with osCommerce.

 

As a consequence, when I set my small image height and width to a typical thumbnail size (e.g. 120x90 pixels) I get an ugly, distorted image.

 

There must be a workaround for this, which has apparently been accomplished on the Mondberg and Beautiful Mood showcase sites.

 

Help would be appreciated.
