SunnyWales Posted December 31, 2004 Posted December 31, 2004  Gone a bit squiffy now! I've just launched my first shop after some long days and nights. It's not brilliant - but better than I had (you know the type with Paypal buttons under the pics). Anyway, I'd love it if you could let me know what you think. The website is Spread a Little Sunshine I've changed the colours to match my website but I'm not really happy with them. What do they look like to you as a customer? I had no experience of coding before attempting this a couple of weeks ago. When I feel a bit more confident I'll add the tag contribution. I'd also just like to say that this forum is fantastic! I'm not as bald as I would have been without it  Thank you so much for all your help (whether you know you gave it or not). Keep up the good work. Perhaps I'll be able to help somebody else in the not too distant future! Anyway, please let me know what you think! I can take it. Wendy Wendy Go on spread some sunshine!
Guest Posted December 31, 2004 Posted December 31, 2004 I quite like it. You might want to remove the Languages & Currencies boxes, if there is only 1 language and currency available. But that's just me.
SunnyWales Posted December 31, 2004 Author Posted December 31, 2004 Hiya - thanks for that. I had thought about removing it, but I'm hoping to get hold of a Welsh version. I'll leave the box there cos I might never get it up again! Thanks for looking. Wendy Go on spread some sunshine!
Taipa Posted December 31, 2004 Posted December 31, 2004 The browser title of the store is still "osCommerce" - change it to your own title ^_^
Guest Posted December 31, 2004 Posted December 31, 2004 To save you a bit of time, go to catalog/includes/languages/english.php and welsh.php in your case. You have to change. // page title define('TITLE', 'osCommerce'); to // page title define('TITLE', 'Spread a Little Sunshine - handcrafted cards in Welsh and English'); Have fun.
Guest Posted December 31, 2004 Posted December 31, 2004 Nice colors! Very warm and friendly. I'd change the buttons, though. They stand out well enough, which is important, but they aren't warm.
SunnyWales Posted January 1, 2005 Author Posted January 1, 2005 Thank you all for your help. I did wonder how to change the title of the page - this is really helpful. I will use the forum to find out how to change the button colour. Thanks again for all your help. Wendy Wendy Go on spread some sunshine!
nafees Posted January 1, 2005 Posted January 1, 2005 I like your home page, except that i would increase the width of the 3 buttons in left column and increase space between them. I would also perhaps limit the number of rows to maybe 10 on the product list page so i don't have to scroll too much. This can be done easily through the admin module. Just my suggestions. SunnyWales Posted January 1, 2005 Author Posted January 1, 2005 Hiya all I've taken your comments on board and have now updated the site. Please take another look if you have the time and/or inclination. Thanks for all your help. Wendy Wendy Go on spread some sunshine!
Chance Posted January 3, 2005 Posted January 3, 2005 I would put a 2-5pix spacer to the left and right of your menu images and text, it looks crowded over there. Also, in Mozilla browsers the space between the "Welcome" and "My Services" blocks of text do something funky. I can't really explain it, you should just download Firefox and see it for yourself. When I tried to check your shop out I got this error: Warning: mysql_connect(): Lost connection to MySQL server during query in /home/fhlinux198/s/spreadalittlesunshine.com/user/htdocs/catalog/includes/functions/database.php on line 19 Unable to connect to database server! Shimmer Posted January 3, 2005 Posted January 3, 2005 Not much to offer, but I do like the colors you've chosen. The layout is very stock, but you can always change that later.
SunnyWales Posted January 3, 2005 Author Posted January 3, 2005 Thanks for this Shimmer - I've been working so hard on the website that I've neglected to make any cards! Will be onto this asap. Wendy  Wendy Go on spread some sunshine!
burt Posted January 3, 2005 Posted January 3, 2005 There is no sunshine in Wales. Not even Llandewi-Breffi. I'd have liked to see your "home page" style carried through to your Shop. As it is you have a very standard looking shop which is a bit of a let down after entering your site via the Home Page. A good start, and indeed there is nothing wrong with your site, but it could be so much nicer. Good luck.
radders Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 The shop looks fine! Not sure about the home page though. Kind of strange having a box around the information on the right but not arount the information in the left. A bit unbalanced. What is the little empty box in the middle about? Coming back to the shop my suggestion would be to show an example of the things that people can order when they select it from your dropdown menu - eg. order of service, tall slim, bilingual.
SunnyWales Posted January 5, 2005 Author Posted January 5, 2005 Thanks for this Radders. I'm a bit concerned about your comment about an empty box. I you can see all the words you must not have been able to view the flowers? Nobody else has commented on this yet - any ideas? I have thought about putting some examples up, but I'm spending too much time working on the shop to get any products into it!!!! Must stop soon. Wendy Wendy Go on spread some sunshine!
radders Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 You can see the little box a little to the right of and slightly above the word 'Welcome'.
SunnyWales Posted January 5, 2005 Author Posted January 5, 2005 Thanks Radders - that's interesting I can't see them. It's designed in the dreaded FrontPage so must be something to do with that. The coding must have gone mad! I don't see when I view the URL at home or in work. But thanks anyway. Wendy Wendy Go on spread some sunshine!
