Secure SSL and OS Commerce

:( I have just downloaded OS Commerce and am setting up my site. However, on my Admin part of OS Commerce, it says that "You are not protected by a secure SSL connection." And on my catalog/shopping cart on my website, at the top, there is a pink bar with an error message saying "Warning: I am able to write to the configuration file: /home/chicsil1/public_html/cart/includes/configure.php. This is a potential security risk - please set the right user permissions on this file." How do I change my settings so that I can become a Secure SSL site? PLEASE HELP!!!! I am new to all this and am not sure what to do.

Thanks guys!

do you have an ssl certificate? if so, and if you want to use ssl for the admin section, in the admin/includes/configure.php file set the top http_server to https://domainname.com instead of http://domainname.com

for the 'pink bar' you need to set the permissons on the catalog/includes/configure.php to 644

I apologize, but this is all new and Greek to me. I am not sure If I have a certificate or not. How would I find out? And on the pink bar, mine is under cart/includes/configure.php (I named it cart instead of catalog during setup), and the permissions of it are already set at 644. Is there another reason, or maybe will the error go away once I have SSL setup? I appreciate the help greatly!

Thanks,

change permissions to 444. if you do not know if you have an ssl, then you probably do not. you can purchase one (search the internet for ssl certificate) or ask your host if you have access to a shared ssl.

Hey Mibble, Me again. I changed the permissions to 444 and it didn't do anything. The pink bar is still on there. Would you happen to have any other suggestions?

Try to set the file permissions through your webhost control panel rather than your FTP client.

Thank you, it worked! But now I'm getting another error that says "Warning: session_start(): Cannot send session cache limiter - headers already sent (output started at /home/chicsil1/public_html/cart/admin/includes/configure.php:52) in /home/chicsil1/public_html/cart/admin/includes/functions/sessions.php on line 67" and it won't even let me make changes in the admin portion of my site.

I might just completely delete the whole thing and start over again!!!

And, I like your quote, it's so true, but more like I'm being thrown completely off, not even climbing! LOL

Thanks,

Jenni
