osCommerce Search doesn't work good.

Is it just me or does the search feature in these forums never work. I can search for the simplest keywords and it returns no results. For example I searched for "out of stock" and nothing. I searched for "Lets see here" and nothing. And about 90% of everything else I search for doesn't show results.

Is it just me, maybe I'm doing something wrong. <_<

Ok so I see, if any word in the list is less than 3 letters it will not accept it. So in the search phrase "Lets see what we have here" because the words see and we are less than 4 long, it will not accept it. The reason for that search was because of the Product listings page title "Lets see what we have here".

 

Why do they do that I wonder?

Care to take a guess at how much work the server would do searching a forum for every occurance of every post that has *one* of the following words:

we

the

 

We would never get to post. ;) LOL

I definately agree you get way too many results. Usually I have to go through about 7 or 8 pages just to get to what I am searching for. But that is only when I can type in a search stream that is accepted. The rest of the time I get nothing. I can understand how it would be hard on the server for everybody searching for something at the same time. But I don't remeber ever having this type of problem at any other boards I am a member of. And most of those boards have a lot more users than this one.

Of course the help you get here from all these nice people is invaluable. So I am not complaining, just curious. :-"

 

And to smileynyc, I think it has to be at leaste 4 with EVERY word, not just the first. But could be mistaken.
