rocketeerperf Posted December 27, 2004 Posted December 27, 2004 Searched archives but didn't find anything immediately. I have downloaded the module for sales tax in CA and set everything that I could find to charge sales tax in California. However, all of my customers outside of California are being charged sales tax as well. At the CA rate of course. It is as if it is not validating the state to check whether sales tax should be charged or not. How do I set the controls so that tax is only charged in CA? Thanks, John www.rocketeerperformance.com www.rocketeerperformance.com

Currently all customers outside of CA are being charged CA salestax including international customers. Adittionally CA customers are being charged sales tax twice! Seems like there are two processes going on here. One that charges all customers sales tax and then an additional one that charges CA tax again. Help please.... John. www.rocketeerperformance.com

This is getting to be a major problem....I'm getting tired of refunding sales tax to all customers... John. www.rocketeerperformance.com
ibsteve Posted January 7, 2005 Posted January 7, 2005 I am having the same problem with out of state customers being charged tax, although I am not having the double tax charge problem. Nobody seems to want to answer this question. Thanks for the help, Stephen Scheaffer
ozcsys Posted January 7, 2005 Posted January 7, 2005 Not familiar with the tax module you downloaded, have you checked to see if there is a support thread for it in the contribution support section of the forum? There are instructions in the knowledge base on setting up tax zones. If followed you should not have any problems with out of state customers getting charged tax unless something in the Ca module changes the way things are setup. If you have customers from out of state getting charged tax I would go through the process step by step and see if you can find the problem. The Knowledge Base is a wonderful thing. Do you have a problem? Have you checked out Common Problems? There are many very useful osC Contributions Are you having trouble with a installed contribution? Have you checked out the support thread found Here BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP!!! You did backup, right??
ibsteve Posted January 7, 2005 Posted January 7, 2005 I am not the original poster but the one above. The only thing relevant I was able to find in the KB was "Adding A New Tax Rate." I feel I have set up things correctly but obviously I haven't. Tax Zone> Zone Name= CA Description= California Sub Tax Zone (I have tried both with this and without) Country= United States Zone=California Tax Class=Taxable Goods Tax Rate> Priority=0 Tax Class=Taxable Goods Zone=CA Tax Rate=8.75% I can not think of anything else to do except list all other states and set them to 0 tax. Thanks for the help, Stephen Scheaffer

I did that last night and will see what happens when I get an out of state order...I'd be surprised if I got a different result than you though...I'll let you know... www.rocketeerperformance.com
ibsteve Posted January 7, 2005 Posted January 7, 2005 Actually I do think it is working now. Didn't seem that way last night but I think the sub zone did it. Let me know if yours works. Thanks for the help, Stephen Scheaffer
