Configuration hang at "Please cutsomize..."

Greetings. osCommerce looks like a pretty nice package but I'm having trouble (!) getting it installed.

I want to run the package on my local system first as a kind of sandbox. I've got OSX.3.7 with PHP 5 and MySQL, Apache 1.3.

The first thing I ran into was the "register_globals" problem. On Mac OSX, PHP 4+ has that option set to off, and the location of the php.ini file is pretty carefully hidden. I was able to run a sample of the php info file and locate the php.ini through that. So I got the globals working.

On reloading the installer I now get stuck at step 2, where the setup screen is asking me to cutomize install options. I checked the "Import Catalog Database" and the "Automatic Configuration" items -- they're selected by default -- but when I click continue, all that happens is the page reloads. If I uncheck one, the other or both boxes, I *still* get the install step 2 page, with the boxes selected once more.

No clue what's happening. I've already done a chmod ugo+x on everything in the catalog directory, so I don't have the vaguest notion what could be hosing me here. Any ideas where to look next? Any other information I can offer?

Thanks!

I am trying to do exactly the same thing on the same system configuration, and I get exactly the same result. The installer just keeps reloading page 2. at least there's consistency here, but in a bad way.

Clues anyone?
