Blank screen when trying to start installation

I'm new to osCommerce but want to give it a shot.

I have uploaded the whole catalog directory to the web server except a couple of files (.htaccess and .cvsignore due to incorrect file name, shouldn't be the problem). I pointed my web browser to where the files were uploaded: http://........./oscommerce/catalog/

The browser redirects to: http://......./oscommerce/catalog/install/index.php just fine but then all I get is a blank screen, the configuration does not start. I don't know a terrible lot about this server stuff, mostly just html. Please help!

BTW, I'm using Yahoo! web hosting if that matters.

Yahoo + Web Hosting = a contradiction of terms!

So, yes it does matter.

Yahoo, does not allow any files with a dot in them to be uploaded, so this means you will never be able to use .htaccess files to control your website. What if someone starts hotlinking your images and embedding them in their website (to steal your bandwidth and save theirs). Unfortunately this happens all too often. The way to stop it is via .htaccess - but you won't be able to use that!

You can try again to run the install by just typing in http://www.yourdomain.com/install (sometimes it does matter what pathway you input), and see if it works. But if it doesn't - go elsewhere. You're going to have nothing but trouble trying to run a dynamic php website on Yahoo.

Vger,

Thanks for the help. I tried your suggestion, still no luck, I get my custom error page. You are right about Yahoo, dynamic pages are about impossible. I thought that I stood a chance since osCommerce used mainly .php (one of the few files that they do support). I guess that is my hint to finally go elsewhere, I just dread having to move my web page and domain to another provider but it will proabably be worth the hassle.

Thanks again.
