New online record shop

So in a relatively short time I've got my new shop up and running. I was running a ShopFactory (commercial software) online store before but that looked very dated and passe.

It's an online record shop featuring mostly punk, crust and generally loud and nasty music so some might not care for the products.

I know this still needs some work, a snappier title bar and better icons but the layout is there and the store is live and working. This is really just an extension of my main site www.woundedpaw.com which includes a phpbb2 forum using the same styles.

The holidays are a time to be happy so I was going to take some time off from doing reviews but I saw your site and couldn't resist the urge.

1) When clicking "Top" I was expecting to go to catalog/index.php which is fine, but there is no way to get to woundedpaw.com/ from your store.

2) I think "header tags" would help you a lot. Your pages all have the title

<title>Wounded Paw Record Shop</title>

. With all the bands and other labels it would help with people trying to find a specific band.

3) You don't have the "Liqour Pigs" in your selection :(

4) Your "shipping and returns" info would be much easier to read in the format of a table.

5) "Your personal information including your email address will not be shared with anyone in any circumstance." :( Then how do you ship the product if you don't give the customer address to Canada Post?

6) Some of your pages require a bit of scrolling on the page, you should try make them all the same width.

7) "3666 requests since Wednesday 17 November, 2004" loose that part.

8) I would loose the osC stock images, they don't match your site.

Promotion;

1) Do a google search for each band that is on your site and see where they are listed or where people are talking about them and get on those sites also. They are the same market as you.

2) Redbook will give you a free listing for Toronto.

3) Send a press release to NOW and see if they will do a write up on your "new" site.

4) On your main page your concert annoucement signs should also have your web site address.

5) Can you sell concert tickets online?

6) Advertise your concerts in NOW and include the web address.

7) Hook up an RSS feed for the site so when you add concert dates, new products they are included in your feed.

8) When any of the bands plays another see if there is an equivilent to NOW there and make sure you are in it.

Okay, very useful feedback. I'll answer a few of these:

1) The Wounded Paw Records logo at the top left of every page in the store takes you straight to the label home page.

2) right-o, I should do that.

3) I don't have any Liqour Pigs CDS, get a couple to me and they'll be up there.

5) Obviously I have to address the package, all I meant was that I won't give out email or other info to people online or otherwise.

6) I've tried to keep the width to a minimum. I was pretty sure it wouldn't require any side scrolling. I'll check that out.

8) I only use one or two osc stock images that I haven't found or made good replacements for yet.

Promotion:

4) Unfortunately I don't make all the concert flyers but whenever I do the site is prominent on them.

1) I'm on a number of boards already spreading the propaganda

2) Redbook?

3) I've gotten a little sick of flooding NOW with press stuff for no replies

5) I can sell tickets online for bigger concerts and have done that in the past

7) Haven't looked into RSS yet.

Try http://www.redto.com/. It is just 1 more directory to be listed, nothing special about it.

I don't see the Liqour Pigs often, but when I do I will give them your info. I like their concerts, they are always fun.

"Obviously I have to address the package" It might have been what you meant but it is not what you said.

I don't know anyone at NOW so I can't help you, I know how you feel though. :(

There is a contribution for RSS now.

It's a personal thing but I wasn't able to view the website for more than a few seconds. What I saw looked good. Way too much contrast though. If I knew where to find the contrast on my monitor I would have turned it down to minimum and would have been able to view but otherwise I didn't fancy the eyestrain.

Really!

I know it's got contrast but I never though it'd be hard to look at. Hmm, I could tone the yellow down a little. I actually find it easier on the eyes than pages like this, with bright white backgrounds and black text.

Yes a lot of white can have a similar effect on some computers. I am using a laptop these days. It isn't really the yellow so much as the black. Most of the page is black. I don't know if all lcd screens would show it this way but I do know that others have reported issues with light text on dark backgrounds.

I took your comments to heart and made a few more changes to the site. I've made the grey background to boxes slightly lighter and I've put all text in boxes so that there is no straight white or yellow text on black backgrounds.

I've also implement headings to the page titles to show where you are in the browser title bar.

I think now I'm done. :D

why do you have a website link to another site for your products (least the one i viewed on your site). it took me to another site, where i could download i am assuming a sample. you should have that part on your site. then on that site, i clicked on 'buy cd' and it takes me to another site. so it seems to be taking people away from purchasing/staying on your site.

I'm not sure which CD you clicked on but that will happen for some of them cuz they're not all from my label, a lot of CDs I just distro and trade with other labels. I have links to bands sites underneath their CDs if people feel like finding out more about the band or looking for MP3s.
