How do you get started?

:'( I am just starting with all of this website stuff and need major help. I've downloaded oscommerce files and set them all up at my ftp address. Now I am supposed to go to http:// [my site] /catalog/install. I have done that and nothing is there. The instructions say that once I do that a screen will appear and I just have to follow the directions but I have no screen! It just says that the page cannot be found. Help please anyone!!!!
