Search Form AutoFILL on Link Click - HELP!

Hi,

 

I need to be able to have the search form "autofilled" with a predetermined search word or phrase when a user clicks a link.

 

For Example:

 

I have a menu listing "A" to "Z" that has a hyperlink for each letter. I want the search form in oscommerce to be "autofilled" with the corresponding letter when the user clicks on the letter.

 

When the User clicks on the letter "A" I want the search form to be filled with the letter "A" and the search to automatically be performed, returning the search results as if the user had typed in the search box and clicked search.

 

The reason for this is obvious. With many products (probably a hundred or so) I would like the products that start with the corresponding letter to be displayed to the user when he or she clicks the link. Without having to type in the search box, or wander around the site looking for a product.

 

Any body know how I can accomplish this. A simple Javascript attached to the link maybe, or is it more complicated?
