dcoper Posted December 11, 2004 Posted December 11, 2004 I'm trying to remove some contributions I've installed before. So, I want to "renew" OsCommerce without reinstallation. I'm planning to copy original OsCommerce files and directories over my existing ones, and therefore replacing them. The only problem is that I don't know which files (if any) are changed during the installation of OsCommerce. Of course, I don't want to change them, because it'll ruin my store... I know there are a lot of smart guys and girls reading this forum. Please help. Thank you, Max.

Have you checked out Common Problems? There are many very useful osC Contributions Are you having trouble with a installed contribution? Have you checked out the support thread found Here BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP!!! You did backup, right??
♥Vger Posted December 11, 2004 Posted December 11, 2004 I'm trying to remove some contributions I've installed before. So, I want to "renew" OsCommerce without reinstallation. So, my previous post about stylesheet.css, which was kindly removed by someone, was valid. If Max has made changes to his site which he doesn't want to lose then many of those changes will be contained within the css file - so the original css (in addition to the database, and the two config files) should not be overwritten. My reading of the original post is that this is not a new 'installation' we are talking about here, but an overwriting of some files which have become corrupted during the application of various contributions. So please, before deleting my post - please read the original post carefully! Vger
ozcsys Posted December 11, 2004 Posted December 11, 2004 To my knowledge the stylesheet does not get overwritten during the install. When moving a site from your local computer to a server you have two choices. Manually or use the install rountine. If you can setup the configure.php files on your own that that is the way to go. If not then you can use the install routine. manually 1. backup database in osC admin 2.upload all files to server 3. create database and user and populate database with backup from your admin/backups folder 4. set all your correct paths in your two configure.php files 5. set needed file and folder permissions 6. password protect your admin. Using osC install 1. Backup database in osC admin 2. upload all files to server 3. create database and user 4. run install program 5. Set needed file and folder permissions 6. do a restore from your osC admin using database backup in your admin/backups folder 7. password protect your admin. Now if you are using one of the template systems that need code added to your configure.php file you will need to add this again as the install script will overwrite the file and the code will no longer be there. Once you do that everything should work just fine. The Knowledge Base is a wonderful thing. Do you have a problem? Have you checked out Common Problems?
