Deleted products still show up in Whats New sectio

I have created a store in which I threw some samples in so I could work with it. Now that I have gotten it ready to go I am having trouble removing the samples from the Whats New section of the store. I have gone in and deleted them from the products and categories area and cannot find any other place where they might be. How can I remove them completely?

Are you sure it's not in your browser cache? What's the URL?

I am sure it is not the cache, it comes up on several different computers.

 

It only happens in the whats new section.

I did a search in the KB and found nothing.

Hello Bill,

 

This is off topic and not related to your problem but why in the hell do you have Spanish pesetas and Deutsche Marks for currency when they both have the Euro for years now ?

 

As for your problem it is hard to see where the problem lies. I see a couple of products in your What's New box and if you have deleted them through the Admin they should have been gone. Are you sure you don't have another categories where you cloned those products so they are still there ?

Is there someplace I should look for other categories?

What I feel like is happening is that when they are entered into the db for the first time it picks up in a separate db somewhere. Then when the product is deleted from the catalog it does not delete from the what's new db. I would like to be able to edit the db directly and then re-upload it with the correct info.

Well, there is no seperate What's New DB or something. Articles are solely shown as What's New depending on the date you entered them in the DB (I believe default osCommerce is 1 month) and after that they are not shown anymore in the What's New box but only in the regular catalog.

If I delete a product it is gone from whereever it showed up and either your DB is screwed or you didn't delete them.

When you go to your Admin and then Catalog-Contents you should see your categories/products defined within the database. There you should check through the Go To listbox (I learned that this works easier as clicking several times on the categories) on the top right side of your screen what categories and subcategories you have defined. Look through all the categories and subcategories if products show up and somewhere along the line you should find your 'missing' products.

If everything really shows up empty without any product then check Specials and Products Expected for completeness to see if there is to find anything in there.

In case everything shows up empty I would say something went bad when you deleted the products and I would look through the database with phpMyAdmin or whatever your provider gives for direct access to the database and find those products there to delete them directly (table Products).

Then check if the shop is okay again and add/delete some products as a test to see if it goes correct or wrong again. If you have added/deleted some contribs along the line which maybe also changed the database structure you may have a harder time to get everything back in line.

as far as I can see, you only deleted the images, not the products.

Ok I think I have a solution if someone can tell me how to do it without phpMyAdmin, I am having a problem with pathing errors that I have no access to fix, so it does not run.

 

I would like to backup the db then open the file and delete the problem fields then backup the db from the edited file, or am I going about this all wrong?

 

I believe the problem may have started with some deletions of products being done with Safari, could this be true?
