Guest Posted December 10, 2004 Posted December 10, 2004 im looking for the best way to speed up my site @ J & N Global Online.its slow loading at startup and i think its cuz the images for the products are too big. i did an Analysis of my page and this is what i got TOTAL_OBJECTS - Warning! The total number of objects on this page is 19 - consider reducing this to a more reasonable number. Combine, refine, and optimize your external objects. Replace graphic rollovers with CSS rollovers to speed display and minimize HTTP requests. TOTAL_IMAGES - Warning! The total number of images on this page is 17 , consider reducing this to a more reasonable number. Combine, refine, and optimize your graphics. Replace graphic rollovers with CSS rollovers to speed display and minimize HTTP requests. TOTAL_SIZE - Warning! The total size of this page is 453734 bytes, which will load in 90.63 seconds on a 56Kbps modem. Consider reducing total page size to less than 30K to achieve sub eight second response times on 56K connections. Pages over 100K exceed most attention thresholds at 56Kbps, even with feedback. IMAGES_SIZE - Warning! The total size of your images is 444167 bytes, which is over 30K. Consider optimizing your images for size, combining them, and replacing graphic rollovers with CSS. CSS_SIZE - Caution. The total size of your external CSS is 6029 bytes, which is above 1160 bytes and less than 8K. For external files, try to keep them less than 1160 bytes to fit within one higher-speed TCP-IP packet (or an approximate multiple thereof). Consider optimizing your CSS and eliminating features to reduce this to a more reasonable size. im thinking its all image related.any help would be nice, thanks
radders Posted December 10, 2004 Posted December 10, 2004 That's easy! Just install one of the thumbnail image contributions and get the size of the images down to something like 100x100 or a filesize of around 4k . hth
ozcsys Posted December 10, 2004 Posted December 10, 2004 Yeah I would say your images are way to heavy by a factor of 10. Try installing the thumbnails on the fly contribution it is a pretty easy install and will bring your thumbnails down to where they should be. I would also both make the logo smaller and lighten it up by at least half if not more. The Knowledge Base is a wonderful thing. Do you have a problem? Have you checked out Common Problems? There are many very useful osC Contributions Are you having trouble with a installed contribution? Have you checked out the support thread found Here BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP!!! You did backup, right??
