A good place to start is do a google search and talk to your bank. If you are going to process the cards on site ( as opposed to something like paypal where they leave and then return) you will need a ssl certificate. The Knowledge Base is a wonderful thing. Do you have a problem? Have you checked out Common Problems? There are many very useful osC Contributions Are you having trouble with a installed contribution? Have you checked out the support thread found Here BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP!!! You did backup, right??
mes Posted December 17, 2004 Posted December 17, 2004 Yer you can get an ssl cert for very little, may be easier to get your host to install one for you. Then you need to create a merchent account. Overall it can cost quite a bit and can be tricky, are u not happy with paypal or whatever u use now? mes

pulsecheck Posted February 5, 2005 Posted February 5, 2005 Hi, I am getting ready to put up a website for my business using OSC. If nothing goes wrong, my website will be launched within the next 2 weeks. Is there a payment gateway that supports Egyptian-based businesses and meanwhile supports the VbV / MCSC (J/Secure is a plus) ? I have checked WorldPay, InternetSecure, and LinkPoint but none of them supports international vendors. I looked up for reviews on 2CheckOut (in WHT Forums) and found so many negative reviews. Any suggestions?
Guest Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 Hi, have you checked Moneybookers? maybe that will do. It should be safer and cheaper than Paypal. Hans from Belgium Hi, I am getting ready to put up a website for my business using OSC. If nothing goes wrong, my website will be launched within the next 2 weeks. Any recommendations of a reliable solid host ? Is there a payment gateway that supports Egyptian-based businesses and meanwhile supports the VbV / MCSC (J/Secure is a plus) ? KernelXP Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 Good job I had a look at this thread, seeing as your a St George Customer I would recommend eWAY for your gateway http://www.eway.com.au/about/special_stgeorge.asp
rommany Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 A question for all you experts, my host does not accept ssl, im using pay pal and checks only at the mo, but think this scares a lot off customers away. If i move to a new host will i lose all my setting with in oscommerce as my host gave this for free, so i guess they will take it back ? As you can tell i havent a clue about any of this stuff many thxs

In your shoes I would download your site from your host and then upload it to a new host. Also make sure you back up the database to your PC too All you should have to do with the new installation is change the config files
AllDunks Posted April 16, 2005 Posted April 16, 2005 you can use different kinds of programs..some charge 20bucks a month, some charge 30. but i still think paypal is the most reliable and has the most security when it comes to payment
dragonstone Posted April 16, 2005 Posted April 16, 2005 i have the same problem. i'm canadian and opening my online store in a couple of weeks time selling to canada and us only. what's the best solution? i'd rather pay a % and a flat rate per transaction while starting - i don't want $60 a month in merchant bank and gateway bills if my sales aren't that high! i was hoping for e-checks as well. i don't think that a us merchant bank can be necessary if i am not a us resident. services like paypal don't demand a us account for canadians and i'd guess they follow the law. i'd rather have a us funds account in my own bank. i was going to use paypal to start with and then go from there. opened a paypal account no problem. filled in my bank accounts details to verify it. 5 days later no deposits on my account:( i phone paypal. on hold for about an hour. then a charming guy tells me not to worry, it's just taking time. next day i get an email to say that there was a problem with my bank account and the deposits have been returned. would i like to e-mail customer service. i do. a week later i get a form reply apologising for not answering my e-mail and if my problem has not been resolved to phone. i do. he cancels the block on my bank account being used again for 2 deposits. i check the transit # and bank # - everything in order .... well. you get the idea. same thing 2 more times. i've no idea why. in the meantime i owed some money to a couple of people in other countries and wanted to pay them with paypal. i've spent the $1k canadian they allow before verifying so no go :( so i asked a relative if he could pay them using his account. he'd had the same problem. so i wish paypal was my answer, but it can't be! i think it's run by a machine. my bank says that paypal has never tried to put a deposit in my accounts.
dragonstone Posted April 16, 2005 Posted April 16, 2005 btw, i don't understand these things at all yet (obviously) but if a payment gateway is fast does that have anything to do with the different providers of online payment services or with the authorize net or whoever that they are re-sellers for or with the set up of the gateway and the speed of one's host site? i notice a lot of difference in speed on transactions
