Just wondering if anyone has an opinion or experience with the IP blocking contributions. I have been having illegal activity on my site, and I am considering implementing one of the contributions, but would like to hear what other people's experience has been with it.

thanks

are you sure it is illegal activity and not robots/search engines?

Yes, they are trying all sorts of credit card numbers to get a valid one, and it is going all the way through to Authorize.net, our cc gateway.

It may be simpler to use an IP blocker from your ISP - - cPanel (and other control panels) provide that function.

I have no experience of any contributions that do this. I guess I am lucky in that one of the servers I use is a Unix server with a customised control panel, and I can just use that to block IP addresses and can use the wildcard * to block a whole range of addresses. But .htaccess can also be used! Just do a search in google for ip address blocking via .htaccess and I'm sure you'll come up with the formula!
