safemode php

Im getting this message then i try to install oscommerce.

 

"FATAL ERROR: register_globals is disabled in php.ini, please enable it!"

 

Im gessing it has something to do with php safemode, now to the que can i still use oscommerce without turning safemode off?

if you cannot alter php.ini, there is a contribution, just search on "register_globals"

have not used it, I own my php.ini, but I may give it a try in the future.
