Creating New Store

This is going to sound strange...but I have an almost live store. I need to upload more products, and we already have close to 12,000 in the store.

 

Is it basically a mysql thing, where we need to get digital data, and upload there, or is there a better method?

 

What we are is a brick and mortar, mail-order operation. We have two catalogs that go out, but that is not my department.

 

Should I try to get a file from the publisher of these publications, to upload to the msql db?

 

Just trying to see if anyone out there has the same experience I have. If it were a store with just a few hundred items, I would be okay. But we are talking 30,000 or more.
