Install Stuck/Loops

Hey all! Newbie here. :P

I've searched the support forums and couldn't find anything relating to my specific problem. Here's the info...

WinXP, Apache (latest), PHP (latest), MySql (latest)

I've tested my server, PHP and MySQL to be sure everything was running properly - and it checked out. The problem comes when I try to go to the install dir and attempt the web-based install. When I get to: http://localhost/loaded/install/install.php, it does not appear to proceed to the next step or give an error. It simply seems to refreshes to: http://localhost/loaded/install/install.php?step=2, but shows up exactly the same as http://localhost/loaded/install/install.php.

Please let me know if there is any additional info I need to provide in order to get help troubleshooting this strange issue.

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I'm having the same problem.

I have searched the forums and net but haven't found a solution. Although some poeple have had this trouble with php5, but I am running:

PHP version 4.3.8

MySQL version 4.0.22-standard

Apache version 1.3.33 (Unix)

Does anybody know if there are any issues with the above versions?

I was using a guide OSCDOX guide to installing oscommerce, and set all the permission ok. Surely if there were permission problems, the oscommerce install would give error messages, as opposed to simply being stuck on step2.

This is the page it is stuck on....you click continue and it simply reloads the same page....

=========================

Please customize the new installation with the following options:

Import Catalog Database:

Install the database and add the sample data

Automatic Configuration:

Save configuration values

CONTINUE

=========================

I have tried chmod the configure.php files 777 but this makes no difference. Oh, one thing. register_globals was disabled on my web host server (nothing I can do about this), and when I tried to get to the install page it would give an error message. I installed the register_globals_contribution which removes the need for it to be enabled, now I do not get an error regarding register_globals so I don't think that's an issue.

I have a db setup, with a user assigned to it.

Any help would be very much appreciated.
