CabernetCat Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 I have just uploaded my store to my hosts server and all looked to be well until I tried to go to the shoppong cart. The site transferes me from my http://sitename.com.au to https://sitename.com.au, but I get a 'page cannot be found' error. I have called my host, but they are reluctant to give me much support on osCommerce (they would prefer me to use one of their 3 supported shoppping carts - and pay for it - they are actually pretty good, so I'm not bitching too much). They are talking about sertificates and fortknox.au.com - no idea what that is about!! Does anybody know about ssl and how this affects everything. If you could explain & help me even better! Of course my site worked fine when it was on my local machine!!! :P
codefighta Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 Does anybody know about ssl and how this affects everything. If you could explain & help me even better! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hi, SSL is secure socket layer (in english: your browser and server create a secure encrypted connection so nobody can "steal" personal information). You host probably can provide this. You really should use ssl for the portion of the site where sensitive information is entered (address, cc info, etc), it is the default setting for osC. I doubt anybody would order anything from your site if you do not use it (indicated by the "s" in https and the small padlock in the browser status bar). There are lots of threads on this forum about this subject. Hope this helps a bit...a general answer to a general question. cf cf
ozcsys Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 The settings for this are in your two configure.php files. You need to set the ssl line to false until you get a certificate installed or if you can get a shared certificate from your host you can leave it to true and just change the https: defines to match the path info they give your for the shared certificate. The Knowledge Base is a wonderful thing. Do you have a problem? Have you checked out Common Problems? There are many very useful osC Contributions Are you having trouble with a installed contribution? Have you checked out the support thread found Here BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP!!! You did backup, right??
