mark27uk3 Posted December 7, 2004 Posted December 7, 2004 Hi Guys, Do you guys let your customers register with free email accounts and if so do they cause any problems (ie fraudulant orders, hard to get responses from customers etc..) Is it possible to restrict free email account being used in the account creation or purchase without account screens? Regards Mark :huh: Lifes a bitch, then you marry one, then you die!
niknakgroup Posted December 7, 2004 Posted December 7, 2004 Hi Mark - I would not suggest blocking them - a good percentage of customers out there have these accounts, and from a quick check of my records, nearly half my orders are from such customers. Having said that, I have only had onbe fraudulent order, and that was from Nigeria, so the address told me a lot more than the email type. If you are getting hassle from multiple duff email addresses, its probably the same person trying to con you - there is an IP blocker mod somewhere that should sort that one out for you!! HTH Please note - if I have suggested a contrib above, it doesnt mean it will work! Most of the contribs are not ones I've used, but may be useful for your particular problem.... Have you tried a refined search? Chances are your problem has already been dealt with elsewhere on the forums..... if (stumped == true) { return(square_one($start_over) } else { $random_query = tep_fetch_answer($forum_query) }
mark27uk3 Posted December 7, 2004 Author Posted December 7, 2004 Cheers Tony, I must admit most of my clients have web based email addresses and I maybe phrased it wrong. I dont want to stop them just maybe discourage them a bit. Maybe I should put a note next to the field and see what that does. Mark Lifes a bitch, then you marry one, then you die!
niknakgroup Posted December 7, 2004 Posted December 7, 2004 maybe something about you being concerned for customers security so therefore prefer non-free email accounts as you will be emailing personal details across? Not sure, but let me know what you do and if it works?! Please note - if I have suggested a contrib above, it doesnt mean it will work! bglkk Posted December 7, 2004 Posted December 7, 2004 Hi Guys, Do you guys let your customers register with free email accounts and if so do they cause any problems (ie fraudulant orders, hard to get responses from customers etc..) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes, we let them use free email. But we also rely on the Maxmind contribution--it uses free email as one of the score factors for potential fraud. Of course free email doesn't indicate fraud by itself, but the risk shoots up when combined with other dodgy factors (high-risk country, next day shipping, anonymous proxy, distance between IP and shipping address...). Maxmind flags possible fraudulent orders based on all those factors. "Buy the ticket, take the ride..." -HST
