SunnyWales Posted December 6, 2004 Posted December 6, 2004 I've just downloaded the catalog file to .htdocs. started install. Test dbase accepted but then get this message after adding IP address and dbase name etc The following error has occurred: The configuration files do not exist, or permission levels are not set. Please perform the following actions: cd /home/fhlinux198/s/spreadalittlesunshine.com/user/htdocs/catalog/includes/ touch configure.php chmod 706 configure.php cd /home/fhlinux198/s/spreadalittlesunshine.com/user/htdocs/catalog/admin/includes/ touch configure.php chmod 706 configure.php If chmod 706 does not work, please try chmod 777. Does anyone know what this means and can you help please? Thanks in advance. Wendy Go on spread some sunshine!
Guest Posted December 6, 2004 Posted December 6, 2004 you should start with the knowledge base, prior to the installation, tells you quite a bit about what you need to do. you need to connect via ftp or your cpanel file manager and right click on the configure.php files and set the file permissions accordingly.
♥Vger Posted December 6, 2004 Posted December 6, 2004 You have two files named configure.php, one is in your catalog/admin/includes/ folder and the other is in your catalog/includes/ folder. You need to change the file permissions on both of those files to 706, or, as the error message says, if that doesn't work change to 777. If you are on a Linux or Unix server you can change these file permissions by FTP'ing to the site, localting the files, right-clicking, select CHMOD and change the file permissions. If you are on a Windows server, which it appears you are, you will either have to access your website via Telnet or SSH to change those permissions, or else get your hosting company to do it for you. The thing is, once your site is set up properly you'll have to have those permissions reset to 400. Vger
SunnyWales Posted December 6, 2004 Author Posted December 6, 2004 Thank you both for those really quick replies. I've checked the knowledge base but couldn't find what I was looking for. I've tried resetting the permissions by FTP (Terrapin) but can't do it that way. I hope I'm not on windows servers as I'm supposed be on Linux. I'll try via my control panel, but will try and contact my host to find out if they can do something for me. Thanks once again Wendy Wendy Go on spread some sunshine!
♥Vger Posted December 7, 2004 Posted December 7, 2004 You're welcome, an ex-patriot Welsh Valleys girl has to help someone with the (ironic) name 'Sunny Wales'! Vger
SunnyWales Posted December 7, 2004 Author Posted December 7, 2004 I'm in Cardiff and it's far from sunny - you're right. Where you from? Wendy Go on spread some sunshine!
