Hosting Considerations

I'm looking to get a hosting plan on a dedicated server. We will be starting out small with one or two osCommerce carts, but plan on adding many more in the future. I know that on the forums you cannot recommend Hosting names, but could you give me some guidelines about what I should be looking for in a host.

Thanks

osCommerce is a great piece of software with wonderful contributions.

Spend some time in the contribution area. There are a lot of gems there.

Non-Windows servers are better for OSC although both will work. Make sure they offer the latest version of OSC and mysql and at least V 3.8 of php. See if they have extras like phpmyadmin installed and, if not, will they install them. Some hosts have a limit on how much badwidth can be used within a certain amount of time. Stay away from those. Beng able to create more than one database will allow you to have a test site. Diskspace usually isn't a consideration anymore, but be sure to get at least 200 MB and bandwidth should be at least 1GB.

HTH,

Jack
